How did we miss these since the first one came out five years ago? We discovered Clementine
around Thanksgiving and read all five in a very short amount of time (who needs clean clothes or meals anyway?). Jonah and I read the first book, with much laughter, in a single morning. Clementine is such a sweet girl and I just love her family, their values, and their simple artistic lifestyle. The books are so funny, and yet, aren't annoying, like so many of the 'funny kid books' (think Ramona, Matilda, Henry... funny, but kind-of-cheeky.) And Marla Frazee's drawings just make me love Clementine all the more! I still think the first book "Clementine" is the best, but they are all lovely and we are so looking forward to finding a copy of Clementine and the Spring Trip in the next couple weeks (it will be released on the 5th of March!)

Books! I've shared about my love of children's literature (that predates having children) before and my New Years Resolution for 2013 was to blog on at least one book a month. Mostly because I love it when others share about great books their reading (so I don't miss out on series like Clementine for five years!) This is technically January's book (can I count it since I took the picture in January?) What are you reading?

They are wonderful, aren't they? I love books that I can enjoy as a grown up just as much as my children do.
I'll have to read Clementine with my girls someday--it's one I am unfamiliar with but your endorsement makes me excited! What are we currently reading? No surprise to you, but we're reading yet more Honey Bunch books from the 1920s/1930s. She's a darling little sweetie pie but I doubt it would keep your boys interested for more than two seconds since it's all tea parties, paper dolls, laundry, dollies, flowers, and such play :)
We just (re)discovered Robert McCloskey. We're finishing up the last of the Little House series and then going to Homer Price and Centerburg Tales. His short story, Burt Dow, Deep Water Man has my 5-year old son captivated and I would guess would be a winner with your boys as well.
Oh, I'll have to find a copy of Burt Dow, Deep Water Man. We love Homer Price and Centerburg Tales (and his other picture books - they have been read and reread around here, but we haven't read Lentil or Burt Dow. Thanks for the suggestion!
Love, love these book recommendations! Thanks for taking the time to post. We're headed to the library after nap to check out Clementine. Just finished Mrs. Noodlekugel. Well, by "finished" I mean read at least a dozen times. Oh to see little hearts delight at the joy of reading! Thanks again!
Hmm . . . them thar are fightin' words when someone refers to our beloved Beverly Cleary books as "annoying!!" Seriously?! They've stood the test of time for generations precisely because her kids are spot on as is their humor. We do enjoy the Clementine books, too. I'd think your boys would really enjoy Cleary's books. Oh well. But at least the critics agree with me on Beverly Cleary. Please reconsider. :-)
Sorry, those weren't meant to be fighting words. We've read the Ramona books and enjoyed them. I liked them too as a kid. I just find they aren't books I can read over and over and I would rather not have a steady stream of them. Maybe annoying was too strong of a word... sorry.
