I loved making Rowan's baptism outfit. These first six months of his life have been hard for my creative side as there isn't much time or energy beyond what it takes to keep our family happily healthy, celebrating and learning. I can't just sew a seam between things, because so far with two there aren't many breaks in the day, and if there are I typically am trying to keep up with housework. But, Jim made a big writing push through March working 10+ hour days when he could. So, last week he gave me a couple afternoons to make Rowan's outfit.
The pattern is from Amy Butler's Stitches for Little Ones and is the same pattern (though a 12 month not a 3 month size) as the little outfit I made for Rowan before he was born. I altered it slightly. First, I used ribbon instead of bias tape (this dressed it up a bit, plus I didn't have time to make bias tape and no where to buy it; I had ribbon on hand). Second I crocheted button loops and added buttons instead of using a tie on the front. I also lengthened the top a couple inches to make it a bit more like a tunic. My only caution is that I don't think that the pattern was sized on a cloth diapered baby. Rowan is in the 12 month size in most clothing, but these pants barely fit over Rowan's diaper, though the length was perfect.
And of course, I embroidered a Rowan tree on it. It has been such a delight to rediscover embroidery in the past couple years. I enjoy it so much and especially enjoy drawing the designs. It is fun to personalize things. I'm almost tempted to make Jonah a baptism outfit (yes, I know he's already been baptized, but it would be so fun and Jonah means Dove which would be great fun to embroider). I mentioned this to Jonah and he told me that was silly as he wouldn't fit it and isn't getting baptized again.... maybe there would be something else to make a dove on. Any thoughts?

maybe you could make Jonah a Pentecost outfit (in red?) and put a dove on it!
