Rowan's Baptism

Sunday was a big day for this family and a teary one for me. We were so excited to be able to have Rowan baptized on Easter, as the early church did all the baptisms on Easter each year. He was his typical jolly self the whole time, with lots and smiles and kicks to the delight of the whole church family.

Our prayer for this little man is that he will grow into his faith and accept the grace that God has already bestowed on him as a child of God; that he will be continually turning toward God and His ways. May he grow strong and fruitful like the Rowan tree for which he is named.

I was choked up at Jonah's baptism, but Rowan's was even more meaningful as I could see Jonah and how he is learning and growing in faith every day. We had gone over the liturgy and so when Father David asked the questions "Do you renounce evil?", "Do you believe in God the father?"... Jonah answered along with Jim and I "I renounce evil", "I believe"... If that doesn't make a mama tear up, I don't know what does!

It is such an honor to be bringing up these little men and teaching them God's great big story and how they are part of that story. May God's grace be on us all as we remember our baptisms and the wonder of God's love for us that reaches out to us before we are even able to respond.
