KCWC: Day 3

In Progress...

This little sweater vest for Rowan (notes on Ravelry) is coming along nicely and I think I might have it done by the end of the weekend. We will see.

And the fun of the day...

I remember reading somewhere (maybe soulemama?) about children designing their own costumes and thinking creatively about what materials to use and how it will all fit together. I was excited about the idea, but this is the first year this has been a significant part of our costuming.

Today Jonah and I were drawing Scotland with Kitts and Nevis off the coast ("Kitts and Nevis are part of North America Mum, but lets just pretend they are by Scotland.") And I decided to take the drawing opportunity to sketch out Jonah's costume for Halloween. He has decided that our family is going to have a Wizard of Oz theme and he will be the wizard. I know the wizard is a humbug and not the most recognizable of the characters, but Jonah wants to be the wizard.

"So Jonah lets think about your Wizard of Oz cape." "The Wizard doesn't have a cape mum. He just wears all green and he is all green."

Much deliberation followed. Not a cane but a staff. Not a cape but pants. We probably don't need the nine piglets because they don't show up until a later book (Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz)....

He thought it out, colored things green and later chose green buttons from the button bin. So fun and not finished yet. But, here are glimpses of our little wizard costume: a true joint effort. Oh I love how collaborative we can be now he is 'a big boy'!
(The 'oz' is mum's touch to give people some chance of guessing who he is.)

We are reading The Wizard of Oz to our kindergartener! He is enjoying it. Your costume collaboration sounds so fun :)

Aren't the oz books so fun! I love how imaginative they are.
