Gammy (Jim's mom) is known for her stories in our home. Last summer she and Jonah were enjoying a string of cooking adventure stories, where they made magical food. And on her last visit "The Adventures of Jonah Monster-Finder and Rowan Beet-Eater" became the new epic. All of these stories begin with Piper (a canine friend of ours) arriving at the door to tell of the latest monster invasion; they end with Rowan's beets saving the day. Gammy told lots of these stories and now Jonah has begun to create them himself. He dictates and I write as fast as I can. On the morning of Jonah's birthday super-hero capes awaited our hero and his side-kick.
(Daddy drew the monster and I drew the beet and did the stitching.)
And here are the latest from Master Jonah's stories. In the monster-finder's own words...
One day Jonah Monster-Finder and Rowan Beet-Eater were at home. Piper came to the door and said "we have an emergency in my bedroom. There are bugs flying around." Rowan said "buka buga" which means "How can we help?"
Jonah Monster-Finder and Rowan Beet-Eater went to Piper's house and the little flying things were flying around.
And so, Jonah said "Piper turn a light on" and Rowan said "Boopa bagaduga" which means 'they are beet eaters'
The End.
The Grocery One
So one day Jonah and Rowan were at home and Piper came to the door and knocked. "We have an emergency at the grocery store" said Piper. They went to the store and then Rowan Beet-Eater and Jonah Monster-Finder looked around and Rowan looked in the bins and there was no fruit! And they looked in the boxes and there was no fruit. Rowan Beet-Eater looked under the bins and said "Guba" which means 'there are golden stripes under the bins, where the monsters ate up the fruit."
Jonah Monster-Finder said "It was the gobbedarry monster - they eat all the fruit in bins.
The Gobbedarries turned into bright fire works and Rowan and Jonah and Piper stood there watching them.
The End.

What wonderful adventures you are having with your children. The birthday party sounded like such fun especially since I too have read the Magic Tree House Books with nathan. You are doing a wonderful job of parenting. Have a good day!
Thanks Amy. We are having fun. I think I knew about the Magic Treehouse books because I remember Nathan reading them. There are so many things that I think to do with Jonah that I remember you doing or remember doing with your kids.
