Arbroath Abbey

After Rowan's appointment yesterday we headed north to Arbroath. It was beautiful and a fun adventure. The abbey at Arbroath was built in the 11oos. It still amazes me that we can drive 45 minutes (or walk into town) and see buildings that were built so long ago (years before Columbus was even born). This sense of history surrounding me is something I've never experienced in North America and definitely something I've fallen in love with.

The natural light in this part of the Abbey was beautiful
And here is your history lesson. In 1320 the Abbott of Arbroath wrote out the Declaration of Arbroath which claimed Scotland's independence. The seals of lords and earls of scotland were added to the document at the abbey and it was sent to the Pope. The above is a replica of the document.
