Sorry this post is a bit late, but here is our Ash Wednesday. We put the Christmas tree trunk into a cross and set up Jonah's 'Jerusalem'. My lenten discipline this year is to prepare a reading/storytelling of an event from Jesus' ministry for each of the forty days of lent and then to make an ornament for on our season's tree to go with the story. So far it has been a lot of fun and I'll be sure to share a picture of some of the stories and the season tree at a later date.
These photos were taken after the children's Ash wednesday service at our church where I used the tree trunk to talk about three trees. First, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil showing how God's people need a rescuer. Second, the Christmas tree seeing how we wait during advent for the rescuer to come. And third, the cross realizing that in lent we are remembering how the act of rescue happened.
