Adventures in the Magic Tree House

Jonah discovered the Magic Tree House Series just before Christmas and was given quite a few over the holidays. Today a few more arrived and it generated such excitement!

Some days lately I'm living in a magic tree house - we'll be walking home from the store when "Watch out Mum, we're in the ice age and there is a saber tooth tiger on the cliff just above us" or "I see piranhas in the Amazon - Look Mum Look!"

I overheard him and a friend (who is also reading the stories) discussing what books they had read and which were their favorites the other day. Oh, I love little readers!

While, I think the books could have slightly better writing (please, just use a compound sentence!), they are fun and fabulous at introducing new ideas from History and the Natural world. To be fair, they are aimed at early readers and that is why the writing is somewhat simplistic.
Yesterday Jonah and I built a magic tree house and found figures to be Jack, Annie and Morgan Le Fay (the magical librarian from camelot who sends them on their adventures). I made him three books for the tree house (dinos, the moon and the amazon), with a promise of more to come.
Jonah has been carrying his little blue notebook around 'taking notes' just like Jack from the stories. It is great fun to hear him talk about 'doing research'. Hooray for imaginary play.
