A Springtime Birthday Crown

While I have four all-boy boys, my sister has three fairy-princess daughters.  Each of them are named for a flower and so their birthday crowns are likewise adorned.  Here is the latest, which I managed to get to to her just after her second birthday while we were traveling this summer.  I really enjoyed making this crown and I'm sad that the photos didn't turn out very well, but you can get the idea.

A Birthday Crown for my Sunshine

Eastertide 39/50 :: in Celebration and Gratitude 

We are celebrating my wonderful one-year-old today.  When they handed me Athan a year ago I was filled with the most intense feeling of gratitude I have ever experienced.  For here he was, my fourth precious baby boy.  I pictured that his symbol would be a sunshine before he was born because Athanasius means 'Eternal Life' and the sun seemed fitting for a baby born in Eastertide.  But, as I've come to know this little man the image of the sun has been fitting beyond what I would have imagined.  He so very content and quick with smiles for everyone; he brings a bit of sunshine wherever he goes.

Vera Rose's Birthday Crown

 Well, this is the latest Birthday Crown.  I wanted something springy for my April born niece.  I really wanted light yellow or pink wool felt, but I couldn't find anything locally and most online stores make you buy a larger piece than I needed, so I decided to make do with what I had.  And, in the end, I think it has a spring feeling and I'm happy with how it turned out.  I used the book Doodle Stitching to inspire the flowers.

A Starry Birthday Crown

I do so love making birthday crowns.  It was fun to make a crown for my star-baby and I thought I'd share a couple close ups.  The Creative Family has a pattern for a crown very simular to this one (I made Jonah's off of that pattern and now just use his as a general guide).  I used wool from this stack that my mom surprised me with when we arrived back in the states in August.  This felt is so thick and luscious; it is a dream to sew (and you don't need interfacing as it is so thick)!

It is a little big, because I've learned if it isn't a little large the first year it is tight ever after... but it fit fine (especially considering he probably wore it for a total of five minutes before taking it off.)

Day 27 - A November discipline of giving thanks each day

I'm feeling particularly grateful and lonely for my wee niece who is celebrating her first birthday today.  Oh, how I wish I could be there.   

And as it is the year for birthday crowns...

(The lighting is funny in these pictures, but I finished the crown up the night before it needed to be sent and couldn't wait for natural light before packaging it up so Jim could mail it.)

Rowan's Birthday Crown

We're getting ready for a first birthday celebration on Tuesday. Rowan's crown has a Rowan tree (of course), scottish plaid for our scotish babe and some autumn colors.

I love making these birthday crowns. It is interesting how much they have evolved since I made Jonah's. I think I may add a dove to Jonah's before his next birthday.

My nephew is five today. Five is SO big! I can hardly believe it. And this is the year of the Birthday crowns for my nieces and nephew. (Maren's was here and Liliana's is yet to come.)

Happy Birthday Maren!

I'm not sure if Maren's birthday crown arrived yet, but it will soon if it hasn't. It would be odd anyway to get our gift on time. I do hope this changes as I become older and more organized (does that just happen?) Jim sent it off first thing last Monday.

What a year our precious niece has had and we are so proud of her! Much love dear princess Maren!

Happy Birthday Jonah!

Birthday breakfast was extra special in our hotel. Jonah even got to drink juice - a special treat!

After breakfast we visited some sights in the city and then boarded a train to Rome. There were a couple new birthday books for Jonah on the train. We loved reading Madeline and the Cats of Rome and wondered if we would see all the things Madeline saw in Rome.

When we arrived in Rome Jonah was excited to see Gammy, Papa, Uncle Jeff and Uncle John. There were birthday presents to open and a little celebration for our now three-year-old boy.

Mom and Dad had bought Jonah a Claas tractor, just like the one at the farm we sometimes visit in Scotland. All the German made toys (including the bruder vehicles - which his tractor is) were so tempting to parents who love fair trade toys!

And I finally could give him his birthday crown that traveled with us through Europe for this one day.
