After two full weeks of intense prelabor I was feeling exhausted and rather numb. Contractions had come and gone for a week, but baby still wasn't making his entrance. I woke up at two am Friday morning and snuggled up to Jim, tears in my eyes. "Is this baby ever going to come?" He reassured me that he would come and that it was going to be okay. We fell back asleep.
Two hours later I woke up again this time with a contraction, after an hour I woke up Jim and after setting out sticker books, a trail of stars through the house and hanging up Isaac's star painting, we quickly left to meet our midwives in Dundee and arrived at 6 am. On the way there the stars shone brightly in the clear night sky and we watched a meteor blaze across the sky right above us (rather appropriate for our baby star!)
When we arrived they skipped assessment and led us straight to our room - I guess it was obvious that he was on his way. Labor was slightly more intense than I remembered it being with the other two boys. And much to my surprise, by the time I got in the water it was time to push. At 8:43 I caught Isaac and pulled him from the water, filled with wonder that he was here.
After seeing a pediatrician and doing a few routine tests we headed home for lunch later in the morning. The older boys were so excited for baby to arrive and welcomed him with enthusiasm. After dinner we shared a birthday cake the boys had made for Isaac during the day with Gammy and Papa, the big boys enjoyed mama made goodie bags (with stars of course) and sang Happy Birthday several times (at Rowan's request - he loves that song!)
So, that is the short version of Isaac's coming. I've included a couple pictures of the Dundee Midwife Unit for the soon to be St. Andrews mamas who have asked what it looks like.
